You Must Make Right The Wrong You Have Done (continued)
Accompanied by the evangelist, each person went to their employer, and both of these employers completely canceled their debts. What a testimony, what a blessing! It doesn’t always go so well—I’ve heard of a testimony where the person ended up in prison after confessing. But before God, it is a normal thing to make amends for the wrong we’ve done to others.
Whether it’s theft, hurting someone, or harboring resentment in your heart, these things must be resolved—even if no one else was aware of them! Listen to what the Lord is telling you. Don’t listen to your mind; listen to your heart. Don’t hide behind false reasoning, but if God places a particular thought in your heart, obey. You will experience the joy of having obeyed the Lord. Someone once said:
“Our own plans pay off immediately but cost us later; God’s plans cost us immediately but pay off later.” That says it all!
“No discipline seems pleasant at the time, but painful. Later on, however, it produces a harvest of righteousness and peace for those who have been trained by it.” Hebrews 12:11 (NIV)
The Darby version uses the word discipline instead of punishment. There are decisions that may not bring us joy at the moment, but that later bear a peaceful fruit of righteousness.
“For the fruit of the light consists in all goodness, righteousness and truth.” Ephesians 5:9
What a beautiful verse! Our new birth leads us to live in goodness, righteousness, and truth. The Spirit of truth dwells in us! Let us be people who walk in truth, people who make a difference. Let’s not hide our sins but sincerely repent of what the Lord is speaking to us about, and set our lives in order. God will always bless the one who seeks justice and truth.
“But seek first the kingdom of God and His righteousness, and all these things will be added to you as well.” Matthew 6:33
This verse is often used to talk about God’s provision when we seek His Kingdom, but it goes beyond that. If you seek righteousness by repenting and setting your life right—no matter the cost—God will add all things to you. Don’t do what your thoughts tell you to do; do what God and your conscience are telling you.
“By faith Moses, when he had grown up, refused to be known as the son of Pharaoh’s daughter. He chose to be mistreated along with the people of God rather than to enjoy the fleeting pleasures of sin. He regarded disgrace for the sake of Christ as of greater value than the treasures of Egypt, because he was looking ahead to his reward.” Hebrews 11:24-26
Here is a man who could have chosen not to change his life. He could have remained comfortably in the pleasures of the flesh and in the enjoyment of sin—so easy and restful! Exhilarating for the body and soul! But he chose to follow God. To him, everything he left behind was nothing compared to the riches of Christ, the reproach of Christ—in fact, Christ Himself. Walking with Jesus costs something, but it’s worth it!
“For whoever wants to save their life will lose it, but whoever loses their life for my sake will find it.” Matthew 16:25
Don’t try to hold on to pride, or to save your ill-gotten money or stolen items. Let go of these things, and the life of God will come into the area where you have repented. Make right what needs to be made right. God loves you. God is good. God wants your well-being and your joy, and you are blessed in Him!
