With decades of experience teaching English in all its facets, my passion for literature and high school students has led me to share my knowledge. Recognizing the need for a comprehensive guide on teaching high school literature, I embarked on a journey to create a series of books tailored to specific grade levels and the corresponding difficulty of the material.

This series, encompassing a one-year curriculum for introductory, world, American, and British literature, targets 9th, 10th, 11th, and 12th grades respectively. The introductory course lays the foundation by covering basic literary elements, preparing younger students for the more advanced works they will encounter in higher grades. The subsequent three books delve into increasingly challenging material. However, teachers have the flexibility to adapt any of the books to suit the needs and abilities of their specific classes, regardless of the grade level.

Each volume is meticulously crafted to provide extensive teaching resources, catering to traditional educators, homeschool parents, and any parents looking to assist their children in the learning process. I have included a wealth of supplementary materials and student-centered activities within each book, fostering a deepened interest and enhanced comprehension of the literary works explored. My aim is for young people to engage with these texts, absorb the wisdom of the writers, and apply sound moral solutions to the challenges they will encounter in their own lives.

In addition to my work on high school literature, I have also published “Timeless Devotional Poetry,” an anthology that ensures the preservation of centuries’ worth of precious Christian poetry for future generations. Sadly, poetry as a genre has lost some of its favor in modern times, with many schools neglecting to teach the great works of the ages. Moreover, as parents themselves may not read poetry, they are unable to pass on a love for it to their children. In this anthology, I have curated a collection of poems ranging from the 7th to the 20th centuries. It includes renowned hymn lyrics by influential figures like Bernard of Clairvaux and Martin Luther, sublime pieces by celebrated poets such as Elizabeth Barrett Browning, Christina Rossetti, John Milton, John Donne, and George Herbert, as well as poignant hymn lyrics by Franny Crosby, and modern poems by T.S. Eliot and C.S. Lewis. Designed as a resource for pastors, literature teachers, homeschool parents, and poetry enthusiasts alike, this anthology also provides introductions to each literary age and informative notes on each author.

Furthermore, in collaboration with my daughter Jane Scott, we have published “The Book Tree: A Christian Reference for Children’s Literature.” This invaluable annotated reading list caters to young readers from preschool through high school. We have carefully assembled a collection that aligns with Walter de la Mare’s belief that only the rarest and best of anything is deserving of our young ones. Organized into sections for preschool, elementary, middle school, and high school students, this book includes summaries of classic works, books by Christian authors, lesser-known gems from renowned writers and poets, and a substantial number of inspiring biographies. Our hope is that this collection will foster a lifelong love for reading and a lasting appreciation for quality literature in young readers.

In essence, my publications aim to equip educators, parents, and literature enthusiasts with the necessary tools to inspire a passion for literature, nurture young minds, and encourage the exploration of timeless works.
