It is impossible to overstate the importance of being mindful of how a prophecy is conveyed, to avoid what the Lord Himself calls “mixing straw with wheat.” Often, when delivering a prophetic word, it is unintentionally mixed with personal opinions and views, or influenced by our own inclinations, beliefs, upbringing, or culture. The Lord said:

Let the prophet who has a dream recount the dream, but let the one who has my word speak it faithfully. Why mix straw with wheat?” Jeremiah 23:28

The way a prophecy is reported can distort and falsify it. It is akin to taking one’s own words and presenting them as God’s words. On this subject, God said:

I am against the prophets who take their own words and present them as my words.” Jeremiah 23:31

Indeed, a prophetic word from God is His indisputable word; failing to convey it faithfully is an act of infidelity and deceives the people of God. Therefore, if the Holy Spirit does not give you the interpretation of a word, it is better to transmit it without commentary.

Even if you add your opinions with the intent to help, be sure to distinguish them clearly so that the person to whom the word is intended does not mistake your personal views for the word of God…
