But the Lord is faithful, and he will strengthen you and protect you from the evil one. — 2 Thessalonians 3:3

The Bible says that the devil will seduce the traitors of the covenant with flattery. But those of the people who know their God will stand firm. It goes even further by saying that the devil blinds people’s minds so that they do not believe in God. The devil is a deceiver, a liar, a thief, and a murderer—that is his nature.

He did not begin to deceive in the Garden of Eden, but rather in eternity past. His cunning enabled him to turn angelic beings away. And it is clear that you cannot change what he does, nor can you stop him from doing what he does. The Bible says: “When he lies, he speaks his native language.” It is therefore impossible for him to do otherwise.

So what you must do is develop your awareness of God, and above all, your intimacy with Him. For that is where you have control.

In reality, the devil’s ultimate goal is to prevent you from knowing, loving, trusting, and glorifying God as much as possible. That is why focusing too much on the devil—seeing him behind everything and wasting your energy on so-called spiritual battles all day long—is a complete waste of your precious time. Because by doing so, you lose sight of the real battle, which is to know and embrace your identity in Christ.

To fight this battle, you need to understand what Paul explained to the Thessalonians: “God will make you firm and protect you from the evil one.” For if His goodness has reconciled you to Himself, His faithfulness can preserve you from anything that might threaten your life.

So rest in the knowledge of this truth: The devil may sift you in order to destroy you, but your Father always preserves you because He is faithful.

Action of the Day: God’s faithfulness is the only safe shelter you have against the assaults of the devil. The problem is not the devil—often it is your focus. Do not ignore him, but just make the effort not to give him too much attention. He has been a liar from the beginning—do not let him seduce you in order to destroy you.

Let us pray:
Lord, thank You that I can find refuge in You. I want to remember that You alone are faithful to strengthen me and protect me from every scheme of the evil one. So I want to remain in You. Teach me to keep my eyes and thoughts fixed on You…
