Then he prayed again, and the heavens gave rain, and the earth bore its fruit. James 5:18 (NKJV – to memorize)

In James chapter 5, the apostle James highlights the power of prayer in manifesting divine blessings such as healing and rain. Raising a vapor to God also means maintaining a fervent and consistent prayer life.
Prayer opens the heavens. When Jesus was baptized, as He prayed, the Bible says that the heavens opened, and the Holy Spirit descended upon Him.

When all the people were baptized, Jesus was also baptized. As He was praying, heaven was opened. (Luke 3:21, NKJV)

To raise a sweet-smelling vapor to God that will provoke the rain of blessings, you must develop a prayer habit and offer various types of prayers.

1. Develop a Habit of Prayer

He went out and made His way, as usual, to the Mount of Olives, and the disciples followed Him. When He reached the place, He told them, ‘Pray that you may not fall into temptation.’ Then He withdrew from them about a stone’s throw, knelt down, and prayed. (Luke 22:39–41, NKJV)

Jesus had a prayer habit. You, too, must develop the habit of praying multiple times a day. You need to have daily moments of intimacy with God to which you remain faithful, no matter what. This habit will enable you to pray even when you don’t feel like it, bringing stability to your prayer life.

To establish a prayer habit, you must:

  • Discipline yourself by setting specific prayer times that work for you.
  • Respect the prayer times you have decided upon.

Those who lack a prayer habit cannot open the heavens.

2. Offer Various Types of Prayers

Pray at all times in the Spirit with every kind of prayer and request, and stay alert with all perseverance and intercession for all the saints. (Ephesians 6:18, NKJV)

Here are different types of prayers:

  1. Prayer of Worship: This is a prayer that celebrates God for who He is and what He does.
  2. Prayer of Supplication: This is a prayer of seeking God, expecting Him to deliver you.
  3. Prayer of Intercession: This prayer stands in the gap for someone or a group, pleading on their behalf.
  4. Prayer of Warfare: A battle prayer to fight against the works of darkness and claim your blessings.
  5. Prayer of Thanksgiving: A prayer expressing gratitude to the Lord and thanking Him.

Practicing these various types of prayer leads to a fervent and effective prayer life that opens the heavens and brings the rain upon our lives.

Let Us Pray Together: Holy Spirit, help me develop a fervent and effective prayer habit, in Jesus’ name! Amen.
