COMMUNICATION
There is phenomenal power in communication; its impact is often underestimated. Yet, effective communication has the ability to influence mindsets, build and establish businesses, build and establish churches, church movements, build and establish people, destinies, change History… For indeed, the great international leaders who have marked and changed history, like Martin Luther King, John Kennedy, Winston Churchill, to name a few, were incredible communicators!
And what about the power to unite, to gather and create teams, communities…? A leader has a voice and a message. When I talk about a voice, it doesn’t mean that he is a good singer, no! It means that his voice is heard. His voice carries when he speaks; it is not a voice in the wilderness, it is not a voice that no one hears or that no one wants to hear. He has a voice! I mentioned Martin Luther King Jr. earlier: the guy had a voice, he had a message: “I have a dream.” In 2 Timothy 1:11, Paul says:
“For this gospel I was appointed a preacher and apostle to teach the Gentiles.”
Interestingly, the word used here for preacher is the Greek word “kerux.” It is also translated as herald, announcer. In other words, he says, I am a messenger, I am an announcer, I am a herald. The idea is that of carrying a message; Paul literally says: I am a messenger tasked with instructing the Gentiles. It is evident that Paul had a voice. At a time when there were all sorts of directions, all sorts of philosophies, beliefs, Paul came with a message. And what did he do? He boldly delivered his message, he wrote his message, he verbalized his message, he spread his message…
I am absolutely convinced that if Paul lived today, in our time, he would have a blog, he would have vlogs, he would have social media… Certainly, because the guy carried a message! Well, if you too want to become a great leader, it is important that you also have a voice; it is important that you are intentional in conveying your message! This is exactly why we established the Exponential platform! I know that I am a voice, it is my mission!
That is why I am on podcasts, on YouTube, on various social media platforms. That is why I am on almost all platforms! The idea is to be a voice for as many people as possible, to carry this message to as many people as possible! What is your message? What is your voice? It is very important to be able to answer these questions if you want to be an impactful leader. Another aspect, just as important as the message itself, is the way it is communicated.
Indeed, it is not enough to know your message and communicate it for it to have an impact; it is also about communicating it effectively! You absolutely must learn to communicate; it is an essential key! It is true that some are naturally more gifted than others in this area, but it is not a fatality! Communicating can be learned! These are skills that can be developed! It is essential if you want your message to be impactful and reach as many people as possible. As for me, I come from a rather stressed and shy background. Never, not for a moment, would I have imagined that I would make a living by speaking in public!
It is important that you train yourself to communicate, that you learn to become a messenger. And the more you learn to communicate, the more clearly you will define what your message is and the more your voice will resonate, whether in your teams, among your community, in your local church, etc., wherever God calls you!
So, remember, good leaders are good communicators! They can clearly speak about what they believe in, they know how to be understood in an instant and in one go, they have a precise goal and make it known, they adapt to their audience, they have words that attract, that convince… They have learned to communicate effectively!
