NO TREE LOVES SLEEP.
One of the reasons why the Lord often refers to trees when He speaks of human beings is because, just like every tree, we exist to bear fruit that corresponds to our species.
From the moment God places us on this earth, He begins to take an interest in our growth as well as the time when we will enter into a phase of abundant production. This abundant production is not optional for trees because they know that all of creation depends on their fruits for survival.
If trees refused to work tirelessly, earthly life would certainly come to an end due to famine. In the same way that humans rely on the diligence of trees to live, so too does all of creation depend on the diligence of each individual to maintain a quality life on earth.
The more we accept to obey the instruction to bear much fruit, the more we will become aware of the need not to slack off. At that point, we will stop dreaming of winning the lottery to stop working. Instead, we will commit to working tirelessly until the Lord calls us into His glory.
This is how we will be worthy of having inscribed on our tombstone: “Rest in peace.” God the Father, who will welcome us into His glory, will then say of us: “Well done, good and faithful servant, enter into the joy of your master.”
A fruitless tree is cut down
I have personally noticed that many people are unaware that God intends to take away the breath of life from all those who do not strive to bear much fruit. All those who love sleep, as well as those who slack off in their work, are like those branches that Jesus promised to cut off or like the fig tree that He commanded to be cut down.
“Every branch in me that does not bear fruit, He takes away;” John 15:2
“So he said to the vineyard keeper: For three years now I have come looking for fruit on this fig tree and haven’t found any. Cut it down! Why should it use up the soil?” Luke 13:7
No one should risk being disqualified by God due to laziness, sleep, slackness, carelessness, lukewarmness, and similar things.
We must not forget that God watches over His word to fulfill it. What He says, He also accomplishes. If He has said that He will cut off those who do not bear fruit, we must believe that He will do it.
A friend of mine recently told me that he had learned from his father that all of his father’s former colleagues had passed away, and he was the only one still alive and in good health. His father explained that the only difference between his deceased colleagues and him was that when they all reached the legal retirement age, these colleagues stopped all physical and intellectual activity and chose to rest.
Unlike his colleagues, my friend’s father continued to be useful to society by teaching in various schools. He continued to bear much fruit, which qualified him to remain alive to this day…
