THE SPIRITS OF COVETOUSNESS AND COMPROMISE

The spirits of covetousness is a strong spirit. As soon as you realize that you are beginning to desire a member of the opposite sex who is not your partner, speak to your pastor or someone (spiritually stronger than you) who can help you through prayer. When you pray, fight against the spirit of seduction (Delilah) sent against you.

If you find yourself unable to stop thinking about someone of the opposite sex other than your legitimate partner—if you cannot do without them, if you go to bed and still cannot forget them—you need to pray. This spirit is often accompanied by the spirit of compromise.
Be a person of principles; do not compromise. Pray that the spirit of boldness will uphold God’s principles within you.

I was recently told the story of a 99-year-old man rocking in a chair outside a shop. A young man came to him and asked, “Old man, at what age did you lose the desire for the opposite sex?” The old man replied, “You’ll need to ask someone older than me.” In reality, the desire for the opposite sex never disappears. The only thing that can keep you is praying for God to deliver you from temptation.

Before I came to know Jesus, sex was my favorite pastime. I couldn’t go two weeks without it. When I met Jesus in 1980, I waited five years before getting married. I married in 1985, and by the grace of God, the only woman I’ve been intimate with since 1980 is my wife. When God saves you, He gives you the strength to resist sin. When you ask for His help, He grants it.

I also never stay alone in a closed room with a member of the opposite sex, except for my wife. I do not challenge God by saying, “I’ve prayed, so I can stay alone with someone of the opposite sex in a room without anything happening.”

I do not practice such things. The doors in our offices are made of glass so that anyone passing by can see the person you are counseling. “Can a man scoop fire into his lap without his clothes being burned?” (Proverbs 6:27). Concerning the devil’s attacks, the Bible says, “Resist him!”

However, when it comes to sexual desires and the other two sins we mentioned earlier, the Bible says, “Flee!” This means to “run away with trembling”…
