It is almost instinctive for each individual to want to share his joys, his ideas, with his loved ones. But as far as destiny is concerned, it is better to abstain, and to find the right audience before speaking. So, to better understand why you must learn to hold your tongue in check, I thought of these examples: God, Joseph, Mary, Elizabeth.

As you may have read above, Joseph faced many difficulties both inside and outside his family, and despite everything, he fulfilled his destiny. Thus, I listened to several people about Joseph and all agreed that he should absolutely not tell his family about his dreams; for, they say, this is what led to this chain of misfortunes for Joseph.

But in meditating on his story, I had the grace to understand that it was in Joseph’s intimacy with God that he received permission to speak of his his dreams. God knew very well that Joseph’s brothers were already jealous of him; and that the devil was watching for the slightest opportunity to transform this jealousy into hatred.

So, he found the right moment to say to Joseph: “speak”. Joseph did not know what his confidence would lead to, but he trusted God. If Joseph had not obeyed promptly by discerning the appropriate moment to speak about it, the years of famine would find him still in his father’s house, and the people of Israel would disappear.

Now, looking at God, we see that God does not speak in any way and to just anyone. You are the first person to whom he addresses himself about your destiny.

Before you reach the age of civil majority, he will be able to address your parents, not so that they do the work for you, but so that they preserve your life and the path traced for you; as he did to preserve the life of Jesus from the hands of Herod. For Abraham, Gideon, David, John the Baptist, Joseph, Samuel, Deborah, Esther… God did not shout to anyone who would listen what their lives were going to be used for.

Likewise, learn to discern the right time to express yourself about your destiny. Even if the people around you see signs, through your gifts or talents; remain calm and keep silent until the right moment. And when the time comes to reveal yourself little by little, be sure to address destiny helpers (divine connections).

When Elizabeth (John the Baptist’s mother) was heard, she kept her pregnancy a secret for 5 months; and knowing that her cousin Mary was going to give birth to Jesus, she didn’t tell anyone. Even to Mary, she didn’t send a message to tell her words like: “I have received my miracle, I am pregnant, soon you too will be pregnant to give birth to the Messiah”.

Elizabeth knew how to keep silent about the destiny of her child and about God’s plan for Mary.

As soon as Elizabeth heard Mary’s greeting, she felt her child stir within her. She was filled with the Holy Spirit and cried out with a loud voice: you are blessed above all women and blessed is the child you are carrying. How have I deserved the honor that the mother of my Lord should come to see me?” … Blessed are you who believed that what the Lord spoke to you would come true” Luke 1:41-45

Similarly, Mary was able to remain silent about God’s plan for her life, and she discerned that it was good for her to draw closer to her divine connection Elizabeth. The whole community had certainly already begun to murmur about the quality of her relationship with Joseph. And to protect his image, he wanted to break up with her; until God dissuaded him. It took God himself to tell Joseph how and why Mary was pregnant.

Those who are wise will shine like the brightness of the sky, and those who turn many to righteousness, like the stars, forever and ever. You, … keep the words secret, and seal the book until the time of the end » Daniel 12: 3-4
