There is a reality that we, as believers, are engaged in a battle. Whether a person has the ability to see the battle or not, we are always in it. The Bible clearly states the truth about these things, and we need to understand from a biblical perspective. It seems that too many Christians have an understanding of the spiritual realm and how it works based on a Hollywood plot.

As I recount some cases of encountering darkness in the spirit, know that we do not have to be afraid. The Bible tells us so many times, “do not be afraid!” We need to listen and understand. The Lord has given us power and equipped us for our work. The Lord has not given us a spirit of fear. But He has given us many other things. If you do not know who you are in Christ, you still need to learn. Whether you are seeking the deep things of God or simply sharing the love of Christ with your family, you need to know who you are.

Many Christians have a false understanding of the spiritual realm, creating an atmosphere of fear for them. We are already in the spiritual realm. What we lack is understanding and awareness. Once we begin to be aware, we can learn. It’s not that suddenly we encounter it because we see it. We are in both realms every day, all day.

So, if this part causes you fear or worry, learn something about who you are. If you think you shouldn’t think about this part of the journey, learn again who you are.

Blazing New Trails

I discovered long ago that evil spirits inhabit the spiritual realm. It’s a given, right? When you see or enter the spiritual dimension, there is a chance that sometimes you will see such things. This is especially true if the Lord is leading you to help someone or to manage something from your position of authority.

Many say, “I don’t want to see that.” I understand why. However, if you can see what is tempting you, it will be easier to rebuke and handle it. If you can see the spirit afflicting the person you are praying for, it will be much easier to handle it. There is no advantage to being spiritually blind, even though many think so.

Often, the experiences I have are new. I mean because this walk is new to me, I learn a lot as I go. So many things I experience are new things. I believe for most of you it will be the same.

It is good when the new experience is a new angel you meet or a heavenly place you encounter, but there is also “the other camp” and it is real. Walk with wisdom, follow the voice of God, and be assured that it is part of our mandate to be like Jesus and destroy the works of the devil. You will learn and adapt very well.

Places of Captivity in the Spirit

I knew nothing about it when I had my first real lesson on places or regions of captivity. The first experience I had with regions of captivity was my own personal deliverance from a kind of “coldness” that affected my emotions towards my wife and daughter. Here is a little story…

For some time, perhaps a year or more, I felt an emotional distance between me and my wife and daughter. I could think of no logical reason for this. I loved them both dearly and wanted to show them the affection I felt. But there was a kind of coldness that prevented me from feeling this closeness.

One night, in the middle of the night, I woke up to find myself in a small enclosure like a prison cell with a barred door. I was wide awake with all my faculties and full awareness, and it was in no way a bad dream. The iron bars of the cell door were on fire. As frightened as I was by all this, the Lord still gave me the presence of mind to use the name of Jesus. I raised my hand and struck the door as if I had a sword, twice. I cried, “fall in the name of Jesus” twice as well.

The door fell, and I stepped out of the cell. There was a long, narrow staircase just beyond the bars, and I climbed the stairs and out of the darkness. At the top of the stairs, there was a door. I opened the door and stepped into the light. On the other side of the door, I saw my wife and daughter, and they were both shining beautifully. It was then that I was fully restored in my relationship with them.

I was delivered.

It was both a lesson for me and a preview of things to come. I discovered that I would see many of these places in the years to come for various reasons. So, what happened? Was I transported to this horrible place? And if I was taken there, how did it help me? No, …
