We too can thank the Lord for the grace He has granted us to believe in Him, without doubting like the Israelite officer who doubted the miracle God had declared through the prophet of grace. The Bible says:

“We are saved by grace through faith” (Ephesians 2:8). It also says:

“Faith comes from hearing, and hearing through the word of Christ” Romans 10:17.

The Bible also speaks of Moses’ sister, who was the first person to be struck with leprosy. She was quarantined because of her sin against Moses. What lesson can we draw from this passage concerning lepers? These lepers were banished from society and quarantined, but they played a crucial role in the deliverance of the Israelite people. Let us not underestimate poor individuals, those left behind, such as orphans, widows, and the sick, for there is always a need for someone smaller than oneself. God uses whom He wills.

Certainly, as ridicule does not kill, the Israelite people put these lepers in quarantine, outside the city, abandoned by their parents. But they became channels of blessing in the hands of God, although after the people’s deliverance by the Lord, these lepers returned to their place outside the city of Samaria, as they were proscribed by the law.

It is written: “The stone that the builders rejected has become the cornerstone.” Our Lord Jesus was rejected by the Jews, and yet He became the cornerstone. Someone said that when you enter an elevator, have the courtesy to greet everyone you meet on your way. For tomorrow when you start to descend, they too will remember your courtesy.

The faithful we nurture in our Christian churches must be considered with great respect because they are pastors, apostles, prophets, evangelists, and teachers who will take our place tomorrow.

Who could believe that the city of Samaria could be delivered through lepers? God can come to our aid through those we underestimate. Let us listen to what the Lord tells us:

“There were also many lepers in Israel in the time of the prophet Elisha, and none of them was cleansed, but only Naaman the Syrian.” (Luke 4:27)

Jesus uses this example to show how the grace of God works. God shows no partiality based on race or nation. For Naaman the Syrian to be cleansed, God used a young Jewish girl, Naaman’s slave. Let us be careful how we behave in front of weak people, for God can bless us through them. Lepers can trust in the Lord for help, just as Naaman was purified by God. Jesus came to deliver all those who are spiritual lepers, even physical ones. The Bible says:

“If we confess our sins, he is faithful and just to forgive us our sins and to cleanse us from all unrighteousness.” (1 John 1:9)

We encourage anyone with a physical handicap to use their brain as these four lepers did. They relied on the Lord and walked towards the Syrian enemy. God amplified the sound of their footsteps, which sounded to the Syrian army like the noise of combat chariots. The Bible says:

“With God, we shall do valiantly; it is he who will tread down our foes.” (Psalm 60:14)

May the Lord crush our enemies, for He has promised that the enemy will come by one way but flee by seven ways. We are very grateful to the Lord Jesus, who, by His death, granted us access to the eternal tabernacle, for the temple curtain was torn from top to bottom. The servant of God, even if he has a physical defect, can continue to serve in the work of the King of Kings. God uses the weak things of this world to confound the strong.
