Is defined as the partial or total absence of sight, the lack of perception, and discernment which a person would suffer regarding the perfect will of God. Spiritual blindness is nothing but a disease that dangerously affects a person’s soul. This spiritual malady is caused by several factors, among which are unbelief, ignorance, and a failure to properly practice holy scriptures. All of these lead to consequences such as groping, confusion, deviation, and unconfessed love of God.

Physically, blindness manifests as the non-perception of daylight, placing the sufferer in a situation of permanent handicap called deep darkness or, also, darkness. Spiritually, a person afflicted with spiritual blindness has their eyes wide open and thus perceives daylight. However, they are incapable of seeing and discerning the light of God, which is the true light that has come into the world to enlighten men.

This was the true light, which gives light to everyone, who has come into the world. He was in the world, and the world was made through him, yet the world did not know him.” John 1:9-10

Jesus Christ is the true light of the world. The Bible indicates that he is the life and the light of men.

In him was life, and the life was the light of men.” It is also written that God so loved the world that he gave his only Son so that whoever believes in him should not perish but have eternal life.” John 1:4

“For God so loved the world, that he gave his only Son, that whoever believes in him should not perish but have eternal life.” John 3:16

Jesus Christ came into the world to enlighten whoever receives him as Lord and Savior and who previously languished in the valley of the shadow of death granted by Satan. Question: Did everyone receive this light that came into the world to enlighten every man? The answer is no.

In the beginning was the Word, and the Word was with God, and the Word was God.” John 1:1

Only those who have received this light that came from heaven and who allow themselves to be guided and enlightened by it are healed of spiritual blindness. However, many of us until this day have remained in spiritual blindness because they have preferred darkness to light for several reasons: Unbelief: they have refused to believe that Jesus Christ is the light of the world, which enlightens them.

And he said to them, ‘You are from below; I am from above. You are of this world; I am not of this world. That is why I told you that you will die in your sins. For unless you believe that I am he, you will die in your sins.‘” John 8:23-24

Pride: seduction: Indeed, some try to justify their state of sinners by false reasoning and thus fall into their own trap.

Therefore put away all filthiness and rampant wickedness and receive with meekness the implanted word, which is able to save your souls. But be doers of the word, and not hearers only, deceiving yourselves.” James 1:21-22

Thus, one who receives the word and does not practice it remains in darkness, and their condition differs in no way from that of a spiritual blind person, regardless of the function or position they occupy in the church. Nowadays, it is sad to note that Christians fall very easily into the devil’s trap, which makes them believe that it is possible to circumvent the word of God while remaining pleasing to God. This is a real lie of the devil because only the word of God can truly open the Christian’s understanding and enlighten them.

Through your precepts I get understanding; therefore I hate every false way. Your word is a lamp to my feet and a light to my path.” Psalm 119:104-105

Many of us, even today, out of blindness and lack of discernment that only the word of God gives, allow ourselves to be guided by our own feelings, false emotions, affection, or sympathy toward a brother or sister or even a man or woman of God who is anointed. It is worth noting here that we do not choose a church because of the anointing, miracles, prophecies, or revelation. Indeed, the Bible warns us against the manipulations of Satan, who does not hesitate to transform himself into an angel of light.

Such men are false apostles, deceitful workmen, disguising themselves as apostles of Christ. And no wonder, for even Satan disguises himself as an angel of light. So it is no surprise if his servants, also, disguise themselves as servants of righteousness. Their end will correspond to their deeds.” 2 Corinthians 11:13-15

Beloved in the Lord, you love prophecy, that’s good, but do not love prophecy at the expense of the word of God because Jesus Christ warned us that at the end of time there will be a great invasion of false prophets who will arise.

Many false prophets will arise and lead many astray. And because lawlessness will be increased, the love of many will grow cold.” Matthew 24:11-12

God, who has the power to read our thoughts, also knows perfectly well what we are seeking when we enter a church or when we set aside his word to follow men because of what we perceive with our natural eyes. The Bible says that God will send a strong delusion to all those who, after knowing the truth, chase after lies…
