The soul is the intermediary between the body and the spirit. It is the seat of feelings and emotions, the sensitive part of our being. The soul acts as a kind of mediator between the immaterial spirit and the material body, allowing the spirit to be connected to and inhabit the body, as well as to utilize it.

In the act of creation, the soul is born from the union of the body (nephesh) and the spirit (rouah). It is through the soul that we become conscious of the existence of both body and spirit. The soul is primarily connected to the body through three elements:

  • The brain
  • The heart
  • The abdomen

The strongest connection is the one it maintains with the heart. Therefore, when we speak of the soul, the heart is the first element that captures our attention. In a literal sense, when we refer to the heart, we are essentially referring to the soul. The heart is the source of life and stability. When your heart is affected or touched, your existence begins to wither away. This is why the wise words in the book of Proverbs tell us:

Guard your heart above all else, for it determines the course of your life.” Proverbs 4:23

An attack on your heart is, in reality, an attack on your soul, for when your heart is affected, your soul is automatically impacted. Those who attack your heart are, in fact, assaulting the wellsprings of life that lie dormant within you, which you possess. The heart serves as an engine for humanity.

When your heart is in a bad state, your life reflects this, as the heart is intricately linked to life. Within your heart lies the management of your emotions and feelings. One of the most significant ways to become a gateway for soul wounds is by mishandling one’s emotions and feelings. A person with a wounded soul cannot effectively serve God; an individual with a wounded soul is highly likely to squander their destiny and become a source of wounds for others.

It is crucial, and even urgent, to seek healing for the soul. Soul wounds are at the root of many declines in our society and in our world. When a wounded individual rises to prominence, they become a cause of soul wounds for those under their authority.
