THE ENEMIES OF THE FAMILY – GREED.
“He who is greedy for gain troubles his own house, but he who hates bribes will live.” Proverbs 15:27, also consider Proverbs 1:10-19
Every serious child of God will resist greed.
Greed is a strong and selfish desire to have more than what you need. The dictionary defines it as a strong desire to have more food, more money, more power, more possessions, and quickly more than what you need. A greedy person always wants more than they need, even at the expense of others. Greedy individuals do not care if others are hurt or deprived in any way, as long as they get what they want. They do not care about others; they only care about themselves.
This kind of attitude is a deviation from the word of God and everything it teaches us to become. When there is greed in a family, it is a significant problem because one person would want to be great, prosperous, or blessed. Such a person would not want others to prosper. A greedy person wants everything for themselves, by any means.
“So are the ways of everyone who is greedy for gain; it takes away the life of its owners.” Proverbs 1:19
“Those who are greedy for gain bring trouble to their families.” Proverbs 15:27
We have an example of Achan in the book of Joshua, chapter 7. Achan was more attracted to earthly goods than heavenly ones. He took the Babylonian garments contrary to the word of God, and by doing so, he brought destruction to his family. Ananias and his wife, Sapphira, made their children orphans in a day because of their greed. They kept what they should not have and experienced severe troubles, leading to their deaths (Acts 5:1-10). The word of God in Proverbs 1:19 was fulfilled in the lives of Achan, Ananias, and Sapphira; they were greedy for gain, and it cost them their lives.
What can we say about Judas, who was an apostle? He walked with Jesus and performed signs and wonders like the other apostles, but greed took hold of him and ruined his anointing and ministry (Luke 9:1-2). Therefore, greed has no respect for your title, ministry, or anointing. If you do not get rid of it, it will destroy you. Beloved, address the issue of greed in your family devotion, study it, and pray to cast it out. Shalom!
Every spirit of greed ravaging your family will die in the name of Jesus.
